New South Wales: Parkes
Incorporating photos and Information from Michael Greenslade's former Australian Towns, Cities and Highways site

Parkes is located in central western New South Wales in a rich agricultural and grazing area and is located at the strategical position of being on the north-south Newell Highway and main western railway. While the town flourished with the discovery of gold in the mid 1860's, Parkes is probably most well known for its radio telescope 20 km north of the town, where the movie "The Dish" was filmed in 2000. The town is set amongst a series of hills where outlooks over the town can be gained, is well looked after and has a grand main street filled with several historic buildings dating back to the late 1800's.
