Background:

The segment of highway bypassed by the Halcombe Hill deviation has been the scene of several crashes over the years, and in recent times some very serious ones.

Work to realign the New England Highway north of Aberdeen commenced in Jun 2006. And was completed late 2007, and involved a new bridge over the main north railway, widened pavement with additional lanes, and a better alignment. The project cost The $16.9 million. 1
