Australian Towns & Cities
South Australia: Olary
Incorporating photos and Information from Michael Greenslade's former Australian Towns, Cities and Highways site

The small town of Olary, is located on the Barrier Highway between Burra and Broken Hill. The town is essentially a highway service town offering the bare essentials for motorists and a break in the extremely sparse scenery encountered in this region of South Australia.

This small settlement was established in the late 1880s to service the highway and the railway which pass through the area. The name "Olary" was first given to a nearby well or waterhole by pastoralists Duffield, Harrold and Hurd.
