New South Wales: Thredbo
Incorporating photos and Information from Michael Greenslade's former Australian Towns, Cities and Highways site

Located within Kosciuszko National Park, Thredbo is one of Australia's skifields towns.

The town swells in size each when tourists from all over the east coast of Australia descend on the town to experience some fun in the snow.

Thredbo takes on a European alps vibe with its architecture. it is home to 14 skilifts and the village is home to mostly accommodation (such as chalets and hotels), pubs, eateries and a handful of shops. The Thredbo River passes through the village centre. Snow can still be seen on the highest surrounding peaks even in December, and the same for lingering ice in the river.

Looking southeast at Thredbo, December 2010. Note all the dead trees, this is due to major bushfires in recent times, which impacted the bushland fiercely, that some flora species are now depleted.
