New South Wales: Forbes
Incorporating photos and Information from Michael Greenslade's former Australian Towns, Cities and Highways site

Forbes is a large town situated on the banks of the Lachlan River and on the Newell Highway in central western New South Wales.

Gold mining was the town's original industry, but once operations ceased, the area was opened up to agricultural interests despite the early explorers believing otherwise. The town itself is quite attractive - several well kept parks abut the Lachlan River and the town's main street is colourful, busy and consists of a number of historical icons such as the post office, town hall, banks, police station and churches.

The town was named after Francis Forbes, a former chief justice of NSW.
