General Information:

Tugun Bypass is a freeway grade route located near the Queensland border in northeastern New South Wales. It bypasses Tweed Heads and surrounding suburbs on the NSW side of the border and Tugun, Bilinga and Kirra on the QLD side of the border.

Construction of the route was controversial, with NSW not providing any funding for its construction, despite, the majority of the road being on the NSW side of the border. The route also passes through some environmentally sensitive areas.

The route consists of dual two-lane carriageway, interchanges, four bridges, and a 350m twin-tube tunnel under the Gold Coast airport runway. 2
